Welcome to the first of the Monthly Newsletter from the members of the Berkshire Park Rural Fire Brigade.
The fire season is fast approaching and now is the time to prepare your homes. It is now you should be reviewing your bush fire survival plan, discussing with your family if you are staying and defending or leaving early in case of a bush fire and making sure if you are staying you have your bush fire survival kit and it is up to date.
It is also the time to make sure around your property is prepared as well by doing a few things to make your house easier to defend such as
• Having an area around house or shed clear of dense bush and scrub
• Keeping grass short
• Have hoses around your property in good working conditions
• House numbers clearly visible for emergency services
• Clean out all gutters and roof lines
• Keep portable pumps fuelled up and in working condition
• A list of emergency numbers by the phone
• Have a fully stocked first aid kit in your home
• When daylight savings change make sure you change the battery in your smoke detector
The members of the Berkshire Park Rural Fire Brigade will soon be implementing the Static Water Supply (SWS) programme, which allows emergency services to know that you have a dam or pool which we can get water from in an emergency.
If you need any more information feel free to drop into the Fire Station on sixth Rd Berkshire Park on Tuesday nights between 5pm and 8pm, also if you need a copy of the Bush Fire Survival Plan the Berkshire Park Rural Fire Brigade has them available.
